Another month has passed in Australia, and it's time to report what has been happening ;) Time flies when hou're having fun and that totally fits to this month! Christmas, new year and half of January, so let's get started!
Christmas time was "same same but different"; yes we had roasted ham but it wasn't a tradinional finnish meal. Instead of dinner on 24th we had lunch. Worked through the evening since the big day here is 25th (but what a nice evening it was, with all locals!). I went to church but went there in the morning of 25th. Spent the Christmas Day visiting -lunch (cold meats and multible salads) at one place, lazy afternoon at other place (prawns and oysters, luckily they had some meat for me). And only one present to open -thanks to post system that brought all my x-mas presents in January!
But then: The New Year 2014!! I truly got lucky with this -one local fellow had a friend in Sydney who was going to take his catamaran to Sydney harbour for NYE-and I was able to join them! So on Monday after exhausting bus trip I went to Double Bay harbour, and couple came to pick me up (sailing!!). Afternoon was very chill and relaxed -sailed around the harbour (it's BIG area), went to swim in one bay and ended up to stay in one bay for the night (yes, slept in the boat, how cool is that?). Next morning started with morning swim in the clear (but chilly) water, followed by seiling to the Harbour Bridge and Opera house. Stunning views! Late afternoon we picked more people to come on board (owners' daughter w/ 3kids) and ended up to Rose Bay.
Have to say, we stayed quite far away from the fireworks, but we were able to see all the fireworks in city and beaches as well. They had three different shows and midnight show was definietly worth the wait! Gotta admit, it was quite emotional moment -last year I couldn't think that this dream could actually come true!! And after all mess and drama in early 2013, I am just amazed how many good things has been happening -sky diving, new job in tv production, scuba diving open water course, Australia, work in a country pub and this! So people, never give up dreaming and Never say some dream is impossible to complete <3
Despite great time in Sydney my year started off with sad feelings -got some bad news from Finland, and my loved grandaunt (grandpa's sister) passed away. What comes to her, I know that in the age of 89 it was her time to go, but after beeing very important person to me for my whole life it really hurts to be on the other side of the world..
But life goes on, and I started to get restless (imagine, I have less than 5months to go in down under!). So we put up an add, found a new girl to replace me, and I booked a ticket to Sydney. And finally I was able to see some kangaroos as well!! What a thrilling feeling it was ;) And on Friday many people came to the pub to say goodbye -I even got a super delicious cake from one of them! I am definietly looking forward to go back to Tumblong to visit and say hello for them -great people and great memories!
But finally I am in the city! It was so great to meet Linda again, you remember her? Girl whom I met in LA, visited in Hongkong? She decided to come to Australia with Working Holiday Visa as well! So hopefully we are able to travel together, so good so far ;) at least the start is good, just in two days we found a shared flat from CBD where we moved in. :) Work? Well... I think I told to you that I am NOT going to take Any serious job, that I'm just going to do some waitering/cafe work/cleaning? Well, it didn't work out that well. I've got increasing pain in my left wrist for 5weeks now. And since that's my waitering hand, I was forced to look other options. But I got extremely lucky, and got a job as a production coordinator!! It is a 6week project and will be done just in time -last consert is 12th of Mar, and Formula 1 event starts in Melbourne on 13th :D
So that's about it, for now. Meeting new people, getting used to Sydney, looking forward to party a little and most importantly - get many lifelong memories!
Stay tuned, this trip is not over :D
